JOHOR BARU: The fire at SK Perigi Acheh in Pasir Gudang which destroyed part of the main building has forced the closure of the school for two days.
The school authorities have erected makeshift tents in the school compound to cater to the 28 students from the affected classrooms.
The school’s senior assistant Mohd Yusoff Zainal Abidin said the other students would study in the school canteen. The school has a total enrolment of 80.
“We gave the students a two-day break as we needed time to clean up the area after Monday’s fire,” he said at the school here yesterday.
“The fire destroyed two classrooms, a storeroom and toilet,” he said, adding that tables, chairs, a TV set, computer and other educational and sports equipment were also destroyed.
He said a student who was going to the toilet saw smoke billowing from the storeroom next door at 2.40pm.
Twenty firemen in two fire engines took 10 minutes to bring the blaze under control. The fire is said to have been caused by a short-circuit after a lightning strike on Monday.
